H1N1 (Swine Flu)

Swine flu has returned to Trinidad and Tobago and has been in the news recently. Many people are asking what they can do to prevent their families from contracting the disease or if there are any vaccines available

The Ministry of Health has put out information on swine flu and will hopefully answer many questions.

The yearly influenza vaccine for 2015-2016 protects you from the H1N1 virus.  The supply from the Ministry of Health as well as the private suppliers has been sporadic for the entire flu season and parents are asked to keep in touch with us to check on the availability.

The Ministry of Health has given us specific guidelines to follow when giving the vaccine. High risk patients include:
Children – age 6 months to 5 yrs
Children with pre-existing conditions such as asthma and sickle cell

All other patients and families will be subject to the availability of the vaccine
